FREDERICK DOUGLASS BLACK AMERICANA LETTER OPENER 1800'
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
FREDERICK DOUGLASS BLACK AMERICANA LETTER OPENER 19TH CENTURY ALUMINUM EXC 8.5. Rare 19th Century Frederick Douglass letter opener. It is made of aluminum or pot metal. Light wear from age. Frederick Douglass born February 1818, died February 1895) was an African-American social reformer, abolitionist, orator, writer, and statesman. After escaping from slavery in Maryland, he became a national leader of the abolitionist movement in Massachusetts and New York, gaining note for his dazzling oratory and incisive antislavery writings. In his time, he was described by abolitionists as a living counter-example to slaveholders' arguments that slaves lacked the intellectual capacity to function as independent American citizens. Northerners at the time found it hard to believe that such a great orator had once been a slave. This is a very hard to find item. I have more Black Americana listed and will be listing more as time goes on. Please ask any question that you may have. Thank you, Dave.. No Tax Charged.
