ITEM DESCRIPTION:

Dating from the 1930s, this early yellow and black cast iron cat's eye stop sign, mounted on a cast iron base, was meant to be placed in the center of an intersection. The 18 inch octagonal sign has a removable center plate for replacing the marble sized clear glass reflectors placed behind the STOP letters. The name of the manufacturer, Artistic Iron Products Co., of Cleveland, Ohio, is cast on the back of the sign. Cast on the front of the sign is Shaker Heights with an image of a Shaker lady in the center, indicating the suburb of Cleveland where the foundry was located. Mounted on a new pole and a smaller, 14 inch diameter base, the sign measures 68 inches tall and is in excellent condition with fresh paint and undamaged reflectors.
