Victory Sanitary Wax Dressing Country Store Barrel

Unusual late 19th century country store advertising piece, this oversized cardboard drum has a paper label advertising Victory Sanitary Wax Dressing, manufactured by Victory Chemical Co. in Philadelphia. The label is dark blue with white lettering and has an image of a little girl waxing a floor in the center with the caption a child can use it. The label is inscribed Victory Sanitary Wax Dressing for furniture of all kinds, for hard and soft floors, pianos, bars, etc., without fear of injury. For hotels, stores,offices, public halls, churches, as well as private houses. 25c bottle, 50c qt. can, 85c half gallon, $1.50 gallon. The cardboard drum was not a wax container and the label appears to have been applied to it so that it could be used as an advertising display piece. I'm not sure whether it was put together by Victory Chemical or whether a store owner glued a paper sign onto an old cardboard drum to make his own ad. I have found paper signs, but not any drums. The piece is in good condition with wear, creases, and water stains on the drum. The label is complete with light discoloration and several repaired tears on the edges, as well as some small silverfish holes in the upper right corner. It would be a great item for a country store display. This will need to come Fed Ex due to an oversized shipment. 7673-01QRP
