ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This heavy one piece glass was once a cookie container that was repurposed as a gum jar by the store owner. The aluminum lid on the jar is marked The Calirox Co on the center lifting handle and we can find where Calirox issued a cookie jar this size with an aluminum crumb catcher in the bottom. The glass jar is etched Home Made Cookies De Martini Biscuit Co Prty on the side in stencil type. We cannot seem to find anything on the De Martini Biscuit Company, so it may have been local to the country store. Apparently cookies were not a big seller, and the store owner decided to clean it out, throw away the crumb catcher and add gum stickers to the sides. Two Dentyne, one Black Jack Chewing Gum, and Beeman's Pepsin Chewing Gum stickers are on the sides of the glass jar. The top edge of the glass jar is chipped from the lid placed on it throughout the years. This jar would have been made somewhere around the early 1900's, so it has stood the test of time well. The lid has typical scratches inside, and what looks like slag marks on the top. Multiple uses still exist for this massive glass jar! 18097-41QPP
