ITEM DESCRIPTION:
Lehmann toys went into production in 1888. The New Century Cycle, featured here, was produced from 1895 to 1938. The early version had a cast metal front wheel and birds and flowers on the umbrella. The later version had a piano wire windup motor and red and white striped umbrella. The front wheel can be set to go in a left or right circle or straight ahead. When wound with the attached key the cycle moves in the direction of the front wheel, the umbrella spins and the passenger raises and lowers his top hat as if waving to the crowd. Size is 5 inches long by 3 inches wide and 5.5 inches tall to the top of the umbrella. All tin construction with lithographed umbrella and cycle. The figures are hand painted. Condition is excellent with age related darkening of the colors and minor paint loss. Some play wear on the edge of the umbrella. pc421
