Convention Ribbon Sons Of Veterans Auxiliary
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
The auxiliary of the Sons Of Veterans, made up of the wives and daughters of the sons of Civil war Union veterans, was an organization founded in 1883. This ribbon badge from the 31st. Annual Encampment of the Ohio division in Akron, which took place in 1917, is a little unusual. The top of the badge is patinated cast metal and identifies the wearer as a delegate and the ribbon gives the date and location. What's unusual is the miniature white rubber balloon tire, dangling from the ribbon, that frames a celluloid image of down town Akron. At that time Akron was a major tire producer and several big tire companies were headquartered there. The badge measures about five inches long by two and a half inches wide and is in excellent condition with some wear and discoloration on the ribbon and the tire. 9502-51UP
