Brown's Tested Seeds Store Display Sign Grand Rapids MI
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
To let their customer's know they only carried the best, this cool Brown's Tested Seeds paper sign would have hung near the Alfred J. Brown Seed Co. bin in their local general store. Originally folded in three places, this artifact has been framed for ease of display and to protect it for years to come. The figures on the piece are called Brownies and are doing different types of farm work from pulling up vegetables, to tending the land and carrying the crop in. Palmer Cox was a Canadian illustrator and author, best known for The Brownies, his series of humorous verse books and comic strips about the mischievous but kindhearted fairy-like sprites. Brown's Tested Seeds was located in Grand Rapids, Michigan and distributed by the Alfred J. Brown Seed Company. The company started in 1885 selling seeds to general stores, and continued until the mid 1920's when the price of seeds slumped and the business could no longer survive. Cool piece for your country store display! 18673-QTP
