Weather vanes have been used as early as the first century B.C. in ancient Greece, but did not become an American tradition until the Colonial times. Each region of the country has different designs, which is evident with this large rooster. This type of weathervane would adorn a farmer's barn or home. The rooster atop this weathervane is made of copper and is eighteen inches long by twenty-one inches tall. His feet appear to touching the directional arrow, which measures twenty-four inches long. The rooster is very detailed and has a hollow body to save on weight. A North/South iron directional is below and mounted to an iron pole.
