ITEM DESCRIPTION:
Opened in 1886 by Edwin Cawston, Cawston Ostrich Farm was America's first Ostrich farm and continued in operation until 1935. Currently it is a South Pasadena Cultural Landmark, but this glass paperweight was a great advertising piece used to keep your paperwork attached to your desk while your fan was trying to keep things cool in your office. Cawston Ostrich Farm is in an arc across the top, with California in an arc across the bottom. It has a picture of a flock of ostriches in the middle, and has a sight haze on the inside of the glass, which is from the five dice rolling around! The glass top is smooth and crack/chip free, and the bottom is textured glass with a metal cap that has some slight oxidation. We date this from the late 1920's to early 1930's. We have other types of these paperweights, please search our inventory! 18981-OW
