1880 Punch & Judy Puppet German
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
We have had this in our collection for a number of years, now it is time to find a new home that will enjoy it as much as we have. From what we can tell, this is a hand made German puppet from 1880. It is a Blackamoor era hand puppet with a hand carved wooden head, hands, and the bottom part of the legs and feet. The costume is hand stitched and made of very thin material with an opening in the back for you to put your hand inside and make the top of his body and head move. The head has an opening inside for your fingers, as does each hand. My hands are too big to operate him correctly, but a child's or ladies hand would do great. Some minor chipping on the head of the puppet with a scuff mark on his nose show that he was well loved. A small tear on the right side of the shirt just where the head attaches can be seen. This puppet comes complete with a stand for you to display proudly. 18349-QPP
