Now a days when a sock or briefs lose their elasticity, we normally throw them in the trash and buy a new pack at our local clothing store. In the late 1800's, garments were fixed over and over again until the life was completely gone from them, then they were turned into another usable item, such as quilts, cleaning cloths, or doll clothes. This Lisle Elastic counter top product display case comes to us from the time period when customers bought elastic 12 inches at a time. Rolls ranging in size from 1/4 of an inch to 1 1/4 inch were inside this oak finished case. The general store owner opened this hinged case and measured the elastic on the side of the case by the original measuring stencil. The case also has grooves inside the width of the elastic rolls. It also has an original chain on each side to stop the lid from falling too far, plus has the original finish and stenciling on the sides! Neat piece of history! 18913-QPP
