Item:
Circa 1900 Silk Advertising Ribbon with Rowland's Players
Item Condition:
Very Good
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
The manufacturer of this silk advertising ribbon is unknown. I believe this dates from right around 1900 as that is the date I found when researching the play "Mabel Heath". I could find no reference to Rowland's Players or Emily Greene Rowland. A holiday greeting is at the top of the ribbon, followed by the cast information and finally the businesses that had the ribbon printed-W. T. Blashill and A. J. Grenney. Mr. Blashill is said to be a "Leader in Silverware and Holiday Novelties" while Mr. Grenney is a druggist who also handles fine perfumes and toilet articles. I found a listing for Mr. Blashill in Oxford, Michigan/MI/Mich and another for Mr. Grenney in Saginaw, Michigan/MI/Mich, both dating to the late 1880's and early 1890's. There are no stains but the top right side has begun to unravel. I'm just surprised to find a silk ribbon of this age intact. The last one I had was so brittle it fell apart every time I touched it (and it was an early political one).

The building in the picture was my Granddad's Chevy dealership in the 1940's and 1950's. Now it houses our multi-dealer antique mall of 29 years specializing in 1970 and older.
