1850's Independent Order of Odd Fellows/IOOF Cup and Saucer

ITEM DESCRIPTION:

The color of this cup and saucer is stunning! The manufacturer of this Odd Fellows/Oddfellows cup and saucer set is unknown and my guess is that it dates from the 1830's to 1850's. There is a narrow band of pink lustre just below the inner rim of both the cup and saucer. Each band shows minor wear. The image on the front of the cup and in the base of the saucer is the same, in a pink-purple color with a small amount of green, blue and red decoration. Each has Independent Order of Odd Fellows at the top of the design with a crest, women, children, flowers and the all-seeing eye. The back of the cup has clasped hands in a floral wreath and the motto "Unity Is Strength". There are no cracks or crazing, although there is an old small chip on the foot of the cup which could have been made during manufacture. The cup has an ornate handle, and the saucer is nice and deep for cooling hot tea. There is no cup ring in the bottom of the saucer. This is truly a lovely piece and a nice addition to a collection of fraternal items.
