Item: Whirligig Wood Cutters Mid Century Folk Art
Starting life in the 1950's as a lawn or garden ornament this wooden whirligig, with the passage of time, has become a piece of folk art. It appears to be home made, the blades and bodies of the cutters cut from thin wooden box boards, the deck and tail from three quarter inch pine or fir. When the blades turn the wood cutters saw back and forth on a log sitting on saw horses. Now mounted on a new base the whirligig measures about sixteen inches tall by twenty-nine inches long and is in excellent working condition. At some point it has received a repaint, one blade has been split and is missing a section, and the log has been replaced. It would look great in a sun room or porch. 9968-QPP
