Item: Folk Art Chicken Coop Wooden Spring Toy
This primitive wooden toy is a real piece of folk art. It's a chicken coop, open on three sides with a hinged front door. When the door is unlatched a chalkware rooster pops out. In the back of the coop are the remnants of a bellows so he probably crowed originally. The roof and sides are decorated with lithographed shingles and bricks. The piece is unmarked, but from what I've read it was probably made in Germany around the turn of the 20th century. It measures 8 tall by 7 1/2 wide by 5 3/8 deep and is in good condition with wear and loss on the lithographed paper parts and some soiling and dust. 14002-31QQE
