Item: Brainerd & Armstrong Silk Walnut Spool Cabinet
Rare and beautiful circa 1880’s Eastlake style walnut spool cabinet with 24 glass front drawers, 6 wooden drawers with brass pulls, and a mirror front center door. Brainerd & Armstrong Co. is hand painted across the top and the two wide drawers at the bottom have “Quill Twist” and “Spool Silk” painted on them. If you research the history of the company you will find it was a company who produced expensive silk and these cabinets were not found in your local country store but in the high class city stores. The 24 narrow glass front doors have nickel plated brass retainers at the ends to hold the glass. They are embossed with silk moths and the company name. The wooden drawers have ring pulls with brass trim. The center cabinet has 8 shelves. The finish appears to be original and is good condition. This large, impressive cabinet is in Near Mint condition. Just a couple of changes have been made over its life time, the retainers on one of the glass front drawers were a mismatch, one of the ring pulls has odd trim. Some of the pulls on the glass drawers have been replaced and match the originals well. This piece is a real beauty and we can have U-ship bring to your door and deliver at one of our shows.. We even have a postcard which shows the building of Brainerd & Armstrong Co. 32 ¼” wide x 40 ¾” tall x 18 ¾” deep. 5811-WWEP
