Item: Chicken Coop Spring Toy Folk Art Toy
This wonderful primitive toy is a real piece of art. It's a wooden chicken coop, open on three sides, with a hinged front door. When the door is unlatched, a spring loaded chalkware rooster pops out. There are remnants of a bellows in the back of the coop so he must have crowed at one time. The coop has bits and pieces of lithographed shingles and bricks on the roof and sides. The piece is unmarked, but from what I've read it was probably made in Germany around the turn of the 20th century. It measures 9 tall by 8 wide by 6 deep and is in good condition with wear and loss of the lithographed paper parts, some dust and soiling, and some glue repairs to damaged rungs. 14001-31QQE
