Item: Studio Steiff Basset Hound Store Display Animal
This is a "studio" Basset Hound. Steiff made this store display dog in 1960 and again in 1967. He no longer has his yellow flag which would narrow down the year he was made, but you will find him on page 93 in Pfeiffer's Sortiment book. He has a clean coat of mohair and big wooden eyes. His floss stitched nose and and toes are still firmly attached, and his airbrushed features are still vibrant. He does have some mohair loss here and there, most notably on the edge and bottom of his feet and his tail, but also on his belly between is back feet and on top of his head. His paper litho over wood eyeballs have some loss to the litho, but are among the best I've seen on the studio Bassets -- they are typically completely worn. There is a small hole in his left "armpit", but that can be easily stitched up. He needs some stuffing in his tail where it meets the body, as well as in his neck in order for his head to stay up. Basset measures about 28" long and he currently sits 20 1/2" high (again, with some stuffing in his neck, his head would stay up). All of our Steiff are offensive-odor free and come from a smoke-free environment. Due to size, we are listing Basset for local pick up. He can be shipped, but will be an over-sized package. Please send us your zip/postal code as shipping cost will vary by location.
